Thanks for visiting my homepage. I hope you like some of my pictures. My Name is Henk Groenen. I was born 27 march 1964 in the small village Middelaar,Netherlands. I studied technical computer science and worked in Amsterdam and Zürich.
I am a big fan of music of many styles : classical, jazz ,rock,world,country,folk as long as it has soul I will listen to it.
My things I like to do is travel and cycling. Photography has been a hobby with ups and downs. Starting with a small pocket camera in 1987. Traveling with 2 reflex cameras in 1991. And with a small compact camera taking snapshots only. With the coming of digital photography I picked up the potography hobby in 2004.

| 1980 | Netherlands | 2 Weeks | By bicycle to Zeeland in the Netherlands. I had to return by train because my bike was stolen in Rotterdam. |
| 1983 | Netherlands | 2 Weeks | Bicycle trip to the south of Holland to Vaals were there is the border with Germany & Belgium. Had to return home because I did not have a passport. |
| 1987 | Europe | 1 Month | Interrail through Europe. A rollercoaster ride through Europe by train. Through Sweden, Norway, Germany, Austria, Greece, Italy. My first time abroad and I liked it a lot. Travel became a passion. |
| 1988 | Turkey | 1 month | First time on a plain to outside Europe. A friend told good things about this country. And he was right : a wonderful country and wonderful people. |
| 1988 | Egypte | 2 weeks | Christmas in Egypt. |
| 1989 | Portugal | 3 weeks | Spring in Portugal was very colorful. I was just in time home for my sisters wedding. |
| 1990 | India | 2 1/2 month | I finshed a 3 years contract at work and decided to go to India. I had never seen something like India, and I have never seen something like it. |
| 1991/92 | Asia | 15 months | My great overland journey via Turkey,Iran,India to Indonesia, back through China. |
| 1994 | Europe | 2 1/2 Months | By Bike to Istanbul and back. 2 1/2 month and 8000 kms. Going via Eastern Europe and returning via Italy. Inspired by the books of Frank van Rijn. Although I did not reach my destination India. Cycled home and went on a next journey without the bike. |
| 1994/95 | South America | 6 Months | After biking I decided to go to this Continent. Often I was missing my bike and the different cultures of Asia. But the nature was great. |
| 1995 | India | 2 1/2 Months | After 6 months of work, I was up to a new India adventure. This time heading for the mountains. Also went to to south. Not even halfway on the planned 1 year journey I had to break the trip because of problems with my room in Amsterdam. |
| 1996 | Kenia, Ethiopia, Yemen | 2 1/2 Months | Aeroflot had nice combination tickets. Flying to Nairobi and flying back from Sanaa. First time dark africa and I was amazed by the wonderful colors in Kenya, the mountains of Ethiopia and the hill villages of yemen. |
| 1997 | Burma, Philipines | 1 Month | A work breakout. I know you can not seen both countries in 1 month. Still I had a good time, and will go back to see these properly. |
| 1998 | Egypte, Israel , Jordan | 2 Weeks | Short overland journey from Cairo to Israel and back via Jordan. |
| 1999 | Panama to Guatamala & New York | 1 Month | Another overland journey, fast and but exilerating. |
| 2000 | Polen, Baltic countries, St.Petersburg | 2 Weeks | An all bus overland journey. It was june and the nights short in these nordic countries. Missing the first week of the European football championship in my country Netherlands. |
| 2000 | Spain | 3 Weeks | After 5 years of work I decided to leave work. I was curious about working abroad. Although I had quitted my job already, I was not sure I wat get the job in Switserland. I had enough plans. |
| 2002 | Argentina ,Chile | 1 Month, November | Switserland would be my next working place. Planning only for half a year, I would stay for 5 years. In the meantime doing some short holidays, like this one. Back in 1995 Argentina was a very expensive country (like Switzerland), but now is was not anymore. Great nature, seeing de Lunar de Sala in northern Chili, the whales in Isla Valdes and getting close (but still far away) to Antartica at Ushuia. |
| 2003 | Sri Lanka | 2 1/2 week (Feb-March) | Short but great. First time I brought a camcorder. |
| 2003 | Cambodia, Thailand, Dubai | 1 Month (November - December) | Enjoying good food and comfort in Thailand, less comfort in Cambodia. Emirates offered a free plain break in Dubai, a very interesting break. |
| 2004 | South Africa, Swaziland | 5 November- 5 December | Like Rio de janeiro is Cape Town situated on a great location. Great country although I had to be carefull about crime. |
| 2006 | Europe by Bike | 3 Months | 7000 Km trip through the center of Europe. I did not reach as far as during my bike trip in 1994 but I wandered the much nices smaller roads wherever possible. |
| 2007 | Asia | 7 Months | Thailand to Turkey. Like 15 years ago but going in the oposite direction. |
| 2007 | Thailand, Cambodia | 3 Months | I had to admit, I was a bit tired of traveling by now. I decided to take it easy and relax. |
